Matilda Grieve is a classically trained saxophonist and emerging composer currently based in Sydney. Having completed her Associate of Music in 2012 and her bachelor of Music in Classical Saxophone at the Queensland Conservatorium in 2016, Matilda diverged to studying a Masters of Music Studies in Composition at the Sydney Conservatorium graduating in 2018.
Prior to her compositional studies, one of Matilda's works had received an international premier in Manchester and France and was professionally recorded by the Queensland Conservatorium Saxophone Orchestra in 2015. This same work was also performed at the Selmer Paris showroom in France.
Throughout her undergraduate degree Matilda performed as part of orchestras and quartets at many notable concerts including performing as part of the Australian Saxophone Orchestra and Queensland Conservatorium Saxophone Orchestra in France at the XVII World Saxophone Congress in 2015. She also performed with Stitched Saxophone Quartet as part of the Paint it Red concert series in Brisbane. In 2015 & 2016 she toured to North Queensland with Stitched providing workshops, tuition and performance for schools.
Matilda has composed works for the Australian Saxophone Orchestra and the Tenor Saxophone Collective for the XVIII World Saxophone Congress that were premiered in Zagreb, Croatia in July 2018. Matilda performed with the ASO at the Croatian National Theatre and in Melbourne at the Melbourne International Saxophone Festival. Most recently Matilda finished a work that was premiered by Queensland Conservatorium Saxophone Orchestra in their concert at the Melbourne International Saxophone Festival in July 2018.
With more works being performed in America and Australia recently Matilda is becoming a sought-after composer for saxophone.
